DESCRIPTION:Can I find dinosaur bones in West Virginia? Is there gold in the hills of West Virginia? Find out the weekend of June 20 and 21\, 2025. What better way to celebrate the great state of West Virginia than to hear about the formation of the mountain state and the importance of West Virginia’s hundreds of millions of years of geologic history to our present mineral wealth\, economy\, and breathtaking scenery. Learn about the formation of Blackwater Canyon and other geological features in the mountain state like Seneca Rocks\, Smoke Hole Caverns\, New River Gorge and more from a West Virginia Geological and Economic Survey staff member. Hear about a variety of geological features\, from balanced rocks to sandstone ridges to coal seams with this easy to understand geologic slideshow in Blackwater Falls Lodge on Friday evening. \n\n\n\nThis event is expected to be about one hour and open to the public to attend free. A Geology Rocks patch is available to those in attendance at the end of the presentation.
